ShipEngine & Flxpoint

ShipEngine is a platform that helps manage your shipping needs without having to worry about the complexities of carrier APIs and protocols. Flxpoint has integrated with ShipEngine’s API and added features that allow you to rate shop and purchase shipping labels directly within the platform, whether you or your vendors are fulfilling orders.

Setup & Get API Credentials

Before you begin, ensure you have your own ShipEngine account. This is required because when you buy shipping labels or rate shop in Flxpoint, the actual shipping rate is applied and your ShipEngine (or carrier) account will be charged for the transaction. Follow these steps to get started:

Connecting to Your ShipEngine Account

Once your ShipEngine account is set up:

  • Log in to Flxpoint: Go to app.flxpoint.com.

  • Navigate to the Appropriate Section:
    • For rate shopping, select Settings → Orders → Rate Shopping.
    • For shipping labels, select Settings → Orders → Shipping Labels.

  • Update Your API Key: Add or update your ShipEngine API key.

When updated, Flxpoint will automatically attempt to re-connect your associated carrier accounts configured on ShipEngine.

Connecting Your Carrier Accounts

If you haven’t yet established a connection to your carrier account(s) in ShipEngine, you must connect them either directly on your ShipEngine account or within Flxpoint:

  • From Flxpoint’s Interface: Navigate to the rate shopping or shipping label screens. Look for unlinked carriers (denoted by a red broken link icon).
  • Enter Carrier Credentials: Input the required credentials for your specific carrier. Select Connect to establish the connection.
  • Handling Errors: If any errors occur during this process, a notification will appear on your screen with details on what needs to be corrected.

Warning

If you previously configured a free ShipEngine account on Flxpoint for rate shopping (via Settings → Orders → Rate Shopping), you must now connect your own personal ShipEngine account for purchasing shipping labels. The free account does not have access to the necessary billing information for label purchases.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Do I need to enter my billing information in ShipEngine?
  • Yes. Flxpoint integrates directly with ShipEngine's API, and when you rate shop or purchase a shipping label, the transaction is charged through ShipEngine. By default, you will be subscribed to their "Pay-as-You-Go" plan, which charges cents and fractions of cents per transaction. Learn more about billing plans here.
2. Will the billing information added in ShipEngine be used for shipping charges?
  • No. The billing information is used solely for your ShipEngine API subscription/overquota fees and third-party insurance purchases. Your shipping charges are billed separately by your carrier. Update your billing details here.
3. Do I need to have access to all the different carriers ShipEngine has access to?
  • No. Currently, we support: FedEx (CA & US), DHL Express, ONTRAC, UPS, USPS/Stamps.com

If you require a carrier that is not listed, please reach out to our support team for further evaluation.
4. Can I use the ShipEngine account automatically created for me when setting up rate shopping to also purchase shipping labels?
  • No. The free account that is automatically created for rate shopping cannot be used for purchasing shipping labels because it lacks the required billing information.
5. Can I still use the ShipEngine account automatically created for me just for rate shopping and use my personal ShipEngine account just for shipping labels?
  • No. Flxpoint allows only one set of active credentials for the ShipEngine integration. Once you connect your own ShipEngine API key for shipping labels, that account will be used for both rate shopping and shipping labels.
