Shopify Re-authentication (OAuth)

July 20, 2026

Summary

Shopify requires OAuth reconnection to keep product and order syncing working; OAuth channels use a Re-authorize button, while custom-app (API token) connections instead need to enable a publications permission in Shopify.

Shopify requires Flxpoint connections to re-authenticate over OAuth. Reconnecting restores product and order syncing on your Shopify channel. OAuth connections use a Re-authorize button; custom-app (API token) connections instead need a new permission enabled in Shopify.

  • OAuth re-authorize — reconnect the Shopify channel and approve the app to refresh access.
  • Custom app path — API-token connections enable read/write_publications instead of re-authorizing.
  • Restores syncing — once reconnected, Sync Listings and order operations resume.
  • Deadline-driven — Shopify set a re-authentication deadline; reconnect to avoid interrupted syncing.
  1. Open the channel — go to Channels and choose your Shopify channel.
  2. Open the connection — go to Integrations → Sync Listings → Edit, then click Edit on the connection card.
  3. Re-authorize — click Re-authorize, then in Shopify click Install.
  4. Confirm — wait for the green Connected badge.

If your connection uses an API token and shows no Re-authorize button, keep the custom app but enable the new publications permission in Shopify.

StepWhere
Open your custom appShopify Admin → Apps → Develop apps → select your app
Open API configConfiguration → Admin API integration
Enable the permissionread/write_publications (under Store content · Publications)
ApplySave → Install app, then return to Flxpoint and test a Sync Listings job
Note: If you do not see the Re-authorize button, your channel uses a custom app (API token). Follow the custom-app permission steps above instead of the OAuth flow.
Note: Shopify's stated deadline for OAuth re-authentication is July 17. Reconnect before then to avoid interrupted syncing. Confirm the current deadline on Shopify's notice, as the year is not stated in-app.

Limited recent ticket data for this migration; the items below come from the documented troubleshooting steps.

The OAuth pop-up is blocked

Enable pop-ups for the site and click Re-authorize again.

The job fails with 401 or 403

Authorize using a store-owner Shopify login, then repeat the authorization.

Error 400 invalid_scope: the access scope is invalid (read_merchant_managed)

Reset the page and try the authorization again.

Publish fails with “Publication does not exist or is not publishable”

The sales channel (publication) tied to your store changed or is no longer published. In Shopify, confirm the sales channel is active under Settings > Apps and sales channels. Then in Flxpoint open the Shopify channel's Sync Listings → Edit, re-select the correct sales channel, and Save. On a custom app, also confirm read/write_publications is enabled, then re-run the sync.

Why do I need to re-authenticate?

Shopify requires connections to re-authorize over OAuth. Reconnecting refreshes access so syncing and order operations keep working.

I don't see a Re-authorize button. What do I do?

Your channel uses a custom app (API token). Enable the read/write_publications permission in your Shopify custom app, reinstall it, and test a Sync Listings job.

What permission does a custom app need?

read/write_publications, found under Store content · Publications in the custom app's Admin API integration configuration.

Publish fails with a publication error. How do I fix it?

Confirm the sales channel is active in Shopify, then re-select it in Flxpoint's Sync Listings connection and save; on a custom app, confirm the publications permission is enabled.
