ShipEngine & Flxpoint

July 20, 2026

Summary

Connect your own ShipEngine account to rate shop and buy shipping labels inside Flxpoint across supported carriers, with billing charged through ShipEngine rather than Flxpoint.

ShipEngine handles carrier APIs so you can rate shop and buy shipping labels directly inside Flxpoint, whether you or your vendors fulfill orders. You connect your own ShipEngine account with an API key, and each rate quote or label purchase is charged through ShipEngine.

  • Compare live carrier rates from within Flxpoint before choosing a service.
  • Purchase labels during fulfillment for your own or your vendors’ shipments.
  • Link your own carrier accounts, or use ShipEngine’s carriers, through the integration.
  • Flxpoint uses a single ShipEngine API key for both rate shopping and label purchasing.

You need your own ShipEngine account because the real shipping rate is applied and your ShipEngine or carrier account is charged for each transaction.

StepWhere
Create a ShipEngine accountshipengine.com
Enter billing informationShipEngine account settings (required for using ShipEngine carriers)
Set up carriersConnect your own carriers, or set up ShipEngine carriers
Generate an API keyShipEngine dashboard → API Management
Add the key in FlxpointSettings → Orders → Rate Shopping or Shipping Labels

When you update the API key, Flxpoint automatically attempts to reconnect the carrier accounts configured on ShipEngine. For any unlinked carrier (shown with a red broken-link icon), enter that carrier’s credentials and select Connect.

The ShipEngine integration currently supports:

CarrierRegion
FedExCA & US
DHL Express
ONTRAC
UPS
USPS / Stamps.com

If you need a carrier that is not listed, contact support for evaluation.

Note: Billing is charged through ShipEngine, not Flxpoint. Rate shopping and label purchases are transacted through ShipEngine, which defaults to a Pay-as-You-Go plan (cents per transaction). That billing covers your ShipEngine API subscription, overage fees, and third-party insurance; your actual shipping charges are billed separately by your carrier.
Note: Flxpoint allows only one active ShipEngine connection. Once you connect your own API key for labels, that account is used for both rate shopping and shipping labels; you cannot keep a separate free account for rate shopping.
Note: If you previously used the auto-created free ShipEngine account for rate shopping, you must connect your own ShipEngine account to purchase labels, because the free account lacks the required billing information.

Rate shopping runs but no label is purchased and the fulfillment request fails with an unrecognized shipping code

This happens when a shipping code is required on the shipping method but is not being overridden by a label purchase. Confirm the ShipEngine account is connected under Settings → Orders, that rate shopping and shipping labels are configured for the route, and that the order actually triggers a label purchase. Because label behavior depends on ShipEngine, capture the order and error and contact support if the shipping code still does not update.

Purchased labels print without our logo (no branded labels)

Flxpoint’s ShipEngine label purchase does not currently pass ShipEngine’s label_image_id field, so labels print unbranded even when a logo is configured in ShipEngine/ShipStation. Branded-label passthrough is an open feature request; there is no setting for it in Flxpoint today. Contact support to be added to the request. Note that ShipEngine itself does not support branded labels for ZPL format or on every carrier service.

Unwanted carriers still appear (for example USPS) after remapping shipping methods

The carrier and service options available come from the carriers connected on your ShipEngine account. Toggling shipping methods in Flxpoint controls what is offered, but if options persist where you expect them removed, adjust the connected carriers on the ShipEngine side as well, then re-check the Flxpoint shipping method settings.

Do I need to enter billing information in ShipEngine?

Yes. When you rate shop or buy a label, the transaction is charged through ShipEngine. By default you are on their Pay-as-You-Go plan, which charges cents and fractions of a cent per transaction.

Is the ShipEngine billing my shipping charges?

No. ShipEngine billing covers only your API subscription, overage fees, and third-party insurance. Your shipping charges are billed separately by your carrier.

Which carriers are supported?

FedEx (CA and US), DHL Express, ONTRAC, UPS, and USPS/Stamps.com. Contact support if you need another carrier evaluated.

Can the free rate-shopping account also buy labels?

No. The auto-created free account cannot purchase labels because it lacks billing information. Connect your own ShipEngine account for labels.

Can I use two accounts, one for rate shopping and one for labels?

No. Flxpoint allows only one set of active ShipEngine credentials, and that account is used for both.

Can I put my logo on purchased labels?

Not currently through Flxpoint. Passing ShipEngine’s label_image_id field is an open feature request, so labels purchased through Flxpoint print unbranded even if branding is set up in ShipEngine.
