OVERVIEW

If your Gmail account has 2-Step Verification and you want to use it for Flxpoint email connections (for example, custom alerts), you must generate a 16-character Google App Password and use that instead of your normal Gmail password. If you would rather not, use the Flxpoint email option instead.

WHEN YOU NEED AN APP PASSWORD

Signal	Meaning
Gmail has 2-Step Verification on	A normal password will not authenticate; you need an app password.

Your password is not 16 characters	Google app passwords are always 16 characters.

IMPORTANT NOTES

Note: In Settings, Email Connection, paste the 16-character app password into the Password field — your normal Gmail password will fail.

Note: Google shows the 16-character password a single time when you generate it. Copy and store it securely before closing the page.

Note: You cannot create an app password until 2-Step Verification is enabled on the Google account, and not if it is set up only for security keys.

Note: For custom alerts you can skip the app password entirely and send through the built-in Flxpoint Email option.

COMMON ISSUES

“password incorrect” when testing the email connection

You are almost certainly using your regular Gmail password. Generate a Google App Password (16 characters) and paste that into the Password field instead, with Host smtp.gmail.com, Port 587, Connection Type TLS.

No option to create an app password in Google

Make sure 2-Step Verification is not set up only for security keys, and that Advanced Protection is not enabled. If it still will not appear, use the Flxpoint Email option for custom alerts.
