Rebuilding Products vs Rebuilding Listings

November 7, 2026

Summary

The difference between Re-Build Product(s) in the Product Catalog and Re-Build in Channel Listings, where each is found and what each option means, what reaches your store without a rebuild, and the steps to get a new custom field from a product onto your store.

Flxpoint builds your data in steps. Source Inventory becomes products in the Product Catalog, and products become listings in Channel Listings. Each step has its own rebuild, and neither one runs the other. A product rebuild does not rebuild listings, and a listing rebuild does not rebuild products.

  • Price and quantity. Flxpoint recalculates them from your channel's pricing and quantity rules, and Sync Listings sends the change to your store. A new cost or new stock at a source does not need a rebuild.
  • Content such as titles, descriptions, images and custom fields. Publish Listings sends it, using the channel's Publish Listings mapping template. Select the listings and click Actions > Publish / Overwrite. Sync Listings does not send content.
  1. Click Products (tag icon in the left menu), then Product Catalog.
  2. Select the variants to rebuild.
  3. Click Actions > Re-Build Product(s). The Re-Build Products panel opens.
  4. Choose Re-Build using the previously used builder & mapping template, or Select a specific builder & mapping template.
  5. Check Re-Build Parents As Well? if the parents should be rebuilt too.
  6. Click Re-Build. Flxpoint says your products are being rebuilt and will show their updated data shortly.

A rebuild runs the Product Builder. Whether it changes data on a product that already exists is set in the builder: Settings (gear icon at the bottom of the left menu) > Mapping Utilities > Builders, then your builder, under Product Match Rules. The questions For product variants, should existing data be updated during building? and For product parents, should existing data be updated during building? each offer Don't update, Always update and Only update if new inventory is linked. A new builder starts as Don't update. The article How Categories Flow from Source Inventory to Your Channel walks through the parent setting.

  1. Click Products, then Channel Listings.
  2. Select the listings to rebuild.
  3. Click Actions > Edit > Re-Build. The Re-Build Listings panel opens.
  4. Choose Re-Build using the mapping template each listing was previously built with, or Select a specific mapping template. With a specific template you can pick one, create one or edit it.
  5. Check Re-Build Parents As Well? if you also want the parents rebuilt. If you chose the previous template, the parents use their own previous template, which may not be the same as the variants'. Pick one specific template to build them all the same way.
  6. Click the Re-Build button at the bottom of the panel. Flxpoint says your listings are being rebuilt and will show their updated data shortly.

A listing rebuild changes the listing in Flxpoint. To send its content to your store, publish it with Actions > Publish / Overwrite.

  1. Add the field to the product. In Product Catalog, open the variant, go to the Custom Fields card, click Add Custom Field, enter the name and value and click Save Variant.
  2. Make sure your listing mapping template maps the field. In the Re-Build Listings panel, choose Select a specific mapping template, pick the template and edit it. A listing only gets what its mapping template maps.
  3. Rebuild the listings as described above. Do not rebuild the product for this: the field is already on the product.
  4. Open one listing. Its Custom Fields card should now show the field.
  5. Select the listings and click Actions > Publish / Overwrite. The channel's Publish Listings mapping template decides which field on your store receives the value, so check it too: Channels (cart icon in the left menu) > gear icon on the channel > Integrations > Publish Listings, at the Define a Mapping Template step.
I rebuilt my products and nothing changed on my store?

A product rebuild only changes the Product Catalog. Rebuild the listings, then publish them with Publish / Overwrite.

I rebuilt a product and the product did not change?

The Product Builder decides whether existing data is updated. Check the two Product Match Rules questions described above.

Can a source rebuild products and listings by itself?

Yes. A source can be set to create and rebuild products and listings automatically when its inventory imports. That setting is on the source's Settings page. The article Rebuilding & Auto-Building Products explains it.
