Removing a Custom Field from Products

November 4, 2026

Summary

What Customizations can and cannot do with custom fields, how to remove a custom field from a product, and why a Re-Build can bring one back.

A custom field can be removed from a product by hand, one product at a time. Customizations can add custom fields or change their values in bulk, but it cannot remove one named custom field from many products.

  1. Open Products (tag icon) > Product Catalog and click the product.
  2. In its Custom Fields section, click the trash icon on the field. The row is struck through, and the undo icon brings it back.
  3. Click Save Parent, or Save Variant for a variant-level field.

The field stays in your Custom Fields list for the products that still have it. Removing it from a product does not remove it from that product's channel listings.

In a Customizations fileResult
A custom field with a valueAdded, or its value changed
A custom field with an empty cellSkipped: the old value stays
Set To Empty on a custom fieldSkipped: the old value stays
Replace Existing Custom Fields chosen in the TemplateEvery product in the file loses all its custom fields, then gets only the ones in the file
Note: Replace Existing Custom Fields is all or nothing, never by field name. To drop one field with it, your file must list every other custom field you want to keep, with its value. Try it on a few SKUs first.
  • A source sync updates Source Inventory only, not your products.
  • A Re-Build runs the Product Builder's mapping template again. It can copy a custom field back from Source Inventory, and it can drop custom fields you added with Customizations. Check the template before re-building.
Can I delete a custom field from the Custom Fields list?

No. The list offers Edit (rename) and Merge, not Delete.

Is there a bulk action on the Products grid?

No. The Product Catalog has no bulk action for custom fields. For a very large number of products, contact Flxpoint support.

Can I edit custom fields on Source Inventory items?

No. They are read-only there; edit them on the product or the channel listing.
