Shopify Order Notes, Note Attributes and Gift Messages

November 4, 2026

Summary

What Shopify Get Orders brings into a Flxpoint order (the order note, note attributes, line properties), how to map a gift message, and why order metafields are not imported.

Shopify's Get Orders brings in the order note, the order's note attributes (the extra name and value pairs Shopify shows as additional details) and the properties on each order line. It does not read Shopify metafields on orders or order lines.

Line item propertiesCustom Fields on the order line, when the line custom fields are mapped as Direct Copy
Order or line metafieldsNot imported
  1. Open Channels (cart icon), click the gear icon on the Shopify channel, then Integrations > Get Orders > Edit > Define a Mapping Template.
  2. Add an order Custom Fields pair. For its name choose Value and type the label you want, for example Gift Message.
  3. For its value choose Value and type na_ followed by the exact Shopify attribute name, for example na_gift_message.
  4. Save the template.

Each imported order then carries that custom field with the attribute's text. If an order has no attribute with that name, the custom field is left off that order. The name must match exactly, including capitals and spaces.

Note: Template changes apply to orders imported after you save. Orders already in Flxpoint are not imported again.
  • The order note is copied to every fulfillment request when the requests are generated.
  • Order and line custom fields are copied too while Pass Order Custom Fields To Fulfillment Requests and Pass Order Line Custom Fields To Fulfillment Requests are Enabled under Settings > Orders > Fulfillment Request Strategy (the default). A source can override them.
  • What the supplier receives depends on that source's Send Fulfillment Requests mapping.
My gift message app saves to a metafield. Can Flxpoint read it?

No. Ask the app or the store to also save it as an order note, a note attribute or a line property, which Flxpoint can import.
