Publish & Overwrite Listings
Summary
Publish creates new listings on a sales channel while Overwrite updates static content on existing listings; pricing and quantity are dynamic and sync automatically without either action.
Publish creates brand-new listings on your sales channel. Overwrite updates the static content of listings that already exist. Pricing and quantity are dynamic and flow automatically, so they do not need Publish or Overwrite.
- Publish — create new listings on the channel from your Not Listed listings.
- Overwrite — update static content: images, titles, descriptions, brand, categories, options, attributes.
- Dynamic data is automatic — pricing and quantity update on their own; no Publish/Overwrite needed.
- Link vs create — to connect to items already on the channel, use Link Listings instead of publishing new ones.
| Type | Fields | How it updates |
|---|---|---|
| Static | Images, titles, descriptions, brand, categories, options, attributes | Publish (new) or Overwrite (existing) |
| Dynamic | Pricing and quantity | Flow automatically through syncing |
To publish or overwrite: open Channel Listings, select the listings (for a new push, select Not Listed), then Actions → Publish / Overwrite → Confirm. Publishing and overwriting are not supported on every channel.
Publish / Overwrite button is greyed out
Select the listings you want to publish or overwrite first; the button activates once listings are selected.
Listings published but did not appear on the store
The channel may have rejected them. Go to Channels → Publish Listings for that channel and read Recent Notifications at the bottom for the channel's error messages (for example a validation error like Category Is Not Configured or a missing option value).
Shopify publish fails on advanced image duplication logic
The error “Advanced image duplication logic is enabled. All of this product's images must first be fetched…” comes from the channel's image-duplication handling and is not resolved by rebuilding. Review the channel's advanced image settings; if you cannot locate the setting or it persists, contact support with the affected product.
A red triangle (Failure Notice) on the Channel Listings screen
An action could not be completed. Hover the icon for details and a link to the affected channel; it clears after the next successful action.
What if I already have products on my store?
Use the Link Listings tool to connect to existing listings by SKU, UPC, MPN, or ASIN instead of publishing new ones.
Do I need to publish to update price or quantity?
No. Pricing and quantity are dynamic and sync automatically. Publish/Overwrite is for static content only.
How do I republish automatically after a rebuild?
Set listings to a Publishing status with a Listing Status Workflow so the next scheduled Publish job pushes them. If a scheduled publish after a rebuild is not firing as expected, confirm the job order and contact support.
